UNION LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

Cambridge Education Association Cambridge, MA

President – Initiated the CEA Educators of Color Committee which has engaged hundreds of educators on issues of social and racial justice in our schools and supported educators of color. Lead teh CrLS Listening project in 2018 where we listened to nearly 200 educators and drew conclusions using qualitative research techniques. Supported a revision of the CEA bylaws to include social justice in our mission. Supported the writing and implementation of the Nellie Mae Building Equity Bridges grant to uncover root causes of systemic inequities in our schools. Revitalized the Political Action Committee to advocate for our scholars and schools. Significant revisions to streamline our membership processes and listings. 2016-present.

New President's Committee – developed and implemented professional development for the MTA New Presidents Academy 2018-2021.

Evaluations Specialist – Supported Educators with the new evaluation system through developing an informational website, providing professional development, supporting individuals and collecting, analyzing and reporting implementation data. 2013-2016.

Vice President – Chair of grievance committees, worked on many special projects, including Traditional, Interest-based and impact bargaining, and evaluating TellMass survey data. 2009-2013.

Contract Committee – Trained in Interest Based Bargaining, bargained a new evaluation system. 2006-present.

National Education Association/NEA Foundation Washington, DC

NEA Racial and Social Justice Conference – participated in the National Social Justice Conference 2017, 2018, 2019.

NEA Leadership Conference – Selected to represent Massachusetts at the NEA Leadership Conference - participated in numerous sessions for leadership development 2018.

Teacher Leader – Among 40 educators from across the nation in the first Teacher Leadership Initiative cohort. Online training and a capstone leadership project: Led the redesign of the structure of professional development in Cambridge (choice courses) 2013.

Cambridgeport Elementary School Cambridge, MA

7/8th grade Math and Science Teacher - Taught Math and Science in a new middle grades program for an expanding elementary school. Designed and implemented the program including an advisory program and a graduation by portfolio process. September 1997 - June 2005.

Chenery Middle School Belmont, MA

7th grade Math and Science Teacher - Taught both Math and Science on an inclusion team. Piloted the science portion of an interdisciplinary Ecology unit. September 1996 - June 1997.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Cambridge, MA

Student Teacher - 750 hours of apprentice teaching. Taught in the RSTA 9th grade integrated Math and Science class called “City Systems,” an 11th grade Precalculus class, and the Macintosh Computer Lab. September 1995 - May 1996.

Geometry Teacher - Taught two sections of high school Geometry using an inductive approach where scholars learned through group and individual investigations (Discovering Geometry). September 1991 - June 1992.

JK-8 Science Instructional Coach – Supported science instruction in 4 JK-8 schools. Participated in School-based Instructional Leadership. Worked district-wide on assessment, data analysis, and curriculum development/documentation. September 2009 –present.

Middle Grade Science Teacher Mentor – Designed, coordinated and presented curriculum and professional development for the Cambridge Public Schools middle school science teachers through individual mentoring and monthly staff meetings. September 2005 –June 2009.

Master Teacher - Mentored new teachers, designed and implemented a school-based mentoring program at the Cambridgeport School through the NBPTS Master Teacher Program. Responsibilities included meetings, observations and curriculum design/ implementation assistance. September 2001 – 2005.

Assistant Farm Manager - Aided in the diversification of the farm including various construction projects. Redesigned milking, maple sugaring and milk processing systems, designed cheese and yogurt making systems, harvested wheat, beans and potatoes along with daily dairy farm operations.
